Afro Cuban: Afro Cuban dances include Rumba: a playful social dance filled with sensual movements. Palo: an energetic dance of slave rebellion with machetes. Orishas: the dances of the gods of the Yoruba religion of west Africa. As we tap into rhythms and movements hundreds of years old, depending on where the student wants to take it; the class ranges from fun aerobic to highly spiritual, and in essence is one’s personal journey.
Ballet: Basics & Beyond: Ballet improves posture, strength, balance and flexibility. We will work on all this through stretching, barre or center work and combinations across the floor. No prior dance experience is expected. All levels, genders and body types are welcome. Students should avoid wearing overly-baggy clothing, but no tights or leotards required! Students should wear ballet slippers, socks, jazz shoes or go barefooted. No sneakers.
Beginner’s Hip Hop: Feel intimidated by dance classes, but you love to bust a move? This is your class. This introduction to hip-hop is geared for dancers who view Kirstie Alley as their hero. Kirstie used hip-hop choreography as a way to lose weight and this class is a step in that direction. Get moving using hot moves that make you look and feel good – no matter what your size and shape. Never stop dancing! This class will get you back in the groove no matter how long you’ve been away from it—or if you never really started.
Belly Dancing Fitness: Infuse you workout with the movements that make belly dancers famous! This fun aerobics class will inspire your body in new ways. Strengthen, stretch and feel beautiful all to the beat of Middle Eastern and World music. You won’t want to stop!
Brazilian Dance: Come alive through the rhythm and movement of Brazilian dance. The Brazilian style of dance draws from African dancing, folk dancing, Capoeira and modern dance elements. You’ll love the captivating rhythms and exciting movements. Put some rhythm in your step! *Live drumming is often featured.
Broadway/Jazz: From the sweetness of “Singin’ in the Rain” to the funk of “Fame,” some of our favorite dances come from Broadway. Each class we will warm up, learn isolations and moves commonly used in jazz dance, and then put them into routines inspired by our favorite musicals of the stage and silver screen. Students should come dressed to sweat and, if possible, avoid wearing shoes with heavily treaded soles.
Contemporary Fusion: Do you think ballet is too stiff and proper to have anything to do with down and dirty modern dance? Well, they aren’t as different as you think. This class will explore the similarities between ballet, lyrical, and modern. You will learn how to take one movement and change it into another movement to create a different style. Designed to give dancers of all experience levels a chance to stand on your own two feet, this class will also teach improvisation basics. So whether you normally dance in front of your mirror at home or in a packed club you will gain the confidence to try new things on the dance floor. In addition to plenty of fun combinations, classical barre and center exercises are included. Shoes are optional for this class.
Hip Hop Aerobics: A high energy, calorie burning, muscle toning class that will let you get your groove on to your favorite tracks. Dance, jump, lunge and sweat in a fun and dynamic fitness blast that will leaving you looking forward to your next workout. This isn’t a choreography based class and all are welcome, dancers and non dancers alike!
Intermediate Hip Hop: High-energy, fast paced choreography for dancers confident in their skills and ready to move.
Latin Social Dance Basics: Fuse hypnotic latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system that will blow you away. Dance Fabulous’s own Latin Dance class incorporates salsa, merengue, samba, cumbia, and other latin dance styles for fitness and latin dance fun! All levels of dance ability are welcome to come and move your hips to the music!
Pole Dancing: Flashdance, Showgirls, Striptease, The Full Monty – do you see where we’re going with this? Feel sexy and gain confidence with this class that introduces the tools of professionals. Sure, you could call it a lap dance/pole dancing class – but it is so much more than that. This class will introduce you to muscles you didn’t know you had and moves you didn’t know you could do. Lots of core strengthening exercises, stretching and a routine to put it all together are included. Beginners encouraged and all body types welcomed. Chairs & rotating poles will be provided – however, you may want to bring your own sticky mat for the floor work and high heel shoes appropriate for dancing. Dress comfortably.
Salsa Styling: This class will focus on applying styling movements to salsa’s fundamental steps to give you confidence and sass on the dance floor. The class will help you break down the basic steps in order to combine them into choreographed footwork patterns. The class will include a warm up (stretching and technique drills) and footwork to create balance. This is not a partner class, but rather meant to help develop strong solo dancers. Both genders are welcome! Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in; which for the ladies may also include heels. The class may also include bachata, merengue, and cha-cha-chá, so that in addition to salsa, students will be well versed and ready for the dance floor.
Stretching and Toning: Love your baby, love your body! This class will lead you through ways to stretch, strengthen and tone all while holding that precious bundle. While actually holding your baby through the whole hour is not required, these exercises are designed to allow you to do so. Mothers get a great workout using baby’s weight, cuddlability and smile. Moves are easily modified to accommodate your body and your baby. Ideal baby age for this class is about 3 months to walking. However, younger babies who are comfortable with movement, or toddlers who enjoy lots of contact are also welcomed. Please bring a thick baby (floor) blanket.
Striptease Dance: How often do you get a chance to be sexy in a week? Well – here’s your chance! It’s a great aerobic workout – and tons of fun!
Tribal Belly Dance Fusion: No belly dancing experience expected prior to this class. All ages, genders, abilities, shapes, and sizes welcome. Class will focus on basic belly dancing techniques through exploring the isolations of the abdomen, torso, arms, and legs that are utilized in Middle Eastern dance. Each class will focus on a different isolation, and will culminate in a brief combination set to music that utilizes this isolation. This class is an excellent way to try out Middle Eastern dance and to supplement your dance practice. Class will include aerobic, stretching, and strengthening activities.
West African Dance: You will have fun, and gain strength and confidence, while learning traditional West African dance rhythms and movements. Classes include warm ups, moves from various Malian and Guinean drum rhythms, and singing. This aerobic workout is also a great release for your mind and body. Some of Madison’s finest drummers provide musical accompaniment!
